The HAY Foundation was featured in the Community Foundation of the Ozarks Annual Report for 2016. We are extremely thankful for all of the donors who allowed us to help local children last year!
A Wire-to-Wire Fundraising Success
Once you throw a party once, and you hope anyone shows up. You throw a second party, and you hope more people show up than at the first one.
By that metric or any other, the second year of Give Ozarks Day was a success.
The region's only online giving day was started by the CFO in 2015, when nearly $1.1 million was raised for nonprofits in 24 hours. Year two, on May 3, 2016, included nearly 225 agencies from across southern Missouri, which combined to raise nearly $1.2 million.
Additional metrics included:
Nixa-based H.A.Y. (Horses Assisting Youth) Foundation was the top-earning regional agency, with more than $39,000 raised to promote its mission of therapeutic horseback lessons for youth.
H.A.Y. Foundation founder Amy Koenigsfeld said the Give Ozarks success was due to "angel donors" that came through with a lead gift for general operations. It's that sort of opportunity the CFO sought to provide to nonprofits when it launched the giving day concept in the Ozarks.
The second year of Give Ozarks not only featured increased agency activity, but additional investment from the CFO and its partners as well. The CFO again provided $100,000 in endowment matches to 20 agencies. BKD Wealth Advisors again served as Presenting
Sponsor, with Commerce Trust/Coover Foundation, Musgrave Foundation and Ron and Janice Penney repeating as Platinum Sponsors. In all, $100,000 in prizes were awarded to nonprofits online and at the Give Ozarks Homestretch, a happy hour for sponsors and agencies at Missouri Spirits, hosted by Springfield First Community Bank. Online, a new "shopping-cart" feature, developed by site creator and Springfield web design firm Mostly Serious, made it possible for donors to give to multiple agencies in a single transaction.
With two successful years under the belt, you might as well throw another party. And so, the third Give Ozarks Day is scheduled for Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at www.giveozarks.org.
We can't wait to see who shows up this year.
